Captain Oliver Martinez
Capt. Oliver Martinez (Capt. Oly)
operates the Moondancer, one of Parrot Bay Village’s
29’ Sea Vees. Capt. Oly, 29, grew up surfing and
fishing the waters around Pavones, Costa Rica. Capt.
Oly began charter fishing at the age of 9 with his father,
Venancio, who is still fishing out of the Golfo Dulce
today.
After a brief stint as a professional
surfer, Capt. Oly took up charter fishing full-time.
Capt. Oly was one of the first captains to fish for
Crocodile Bay Lodge, where he ran a Boston Whaler
for 8 years before coming to fish at Parrot Bay Village.
Capt. Oly earned his captain’s license 10 years
ago and has put in well over 100 days a year on the
water in search of sailfish and marlin offshore and
guiding a client to a jack crevalle world record. Capt.
Oly speaks perfect English and is an accomplished fly
captain, guiding fly fishing clients to over 100 sailfish
releases. When Capt. Oly is not on the water he can
be found spending time with his wife, Lizbeth, and his
2 year old daughter, Shellsea.
Captain Javier Cortez Espinoza
Capt. Javier Cortez Espinoza is the captain of Parrot
Bay Village’s other center console, the Wavejammer.
Javier grew up in Puerto Jimenez with his 3 younger
brothers, one of which is our gardener and maintenance
engineer at the hotel. Javier, 21, has been Parrot Bay’s
lead deckhand for 7 years and was promoted to captain
in 2007. Javier, like Capt. Oly, speaks perfect English
and earned his captain's license 2 years ago during
the off-season.
Anyone who knows Capt. Javier, knows that he has a
true love for fishing and can be found casting poppers
from the beach or bottom fishing from a kayak on his
days off. In 2008 alone he guided our clients to 3 tunas
over 200 pounds, 4 marlin (1 on a fly), and over 80
sailfish. When Javier is not fishing he can be found
spending time with his wife, Katherine, and his 2 year
